Content Creators: Chef_Moquin95

Here at Townhouse Takes, in order to broaden our horizons and branch out, we are going to be bringing you a series where we profile other content creators. Streamers, Instagrammers, web designers, bloggers, anything you can think of in the business of creating content. I think it will hopefully be a great way to get us involved with more and provide other people a chance to get their content out there! Our first guest is Twitch’s own Chef_Moquin95!

Chef_Moquin95, or as he goes by in the chat, Chef, has been streaming for almost a year and half now. He is a very entertaining and enthusiastic streamer who enjoys playing both solo RPGs and also fun Co-Op games with other streamers. Part of a loyal and growing streaming and Discord community, Chef is definitely someone to check out. Here are some highlights from our conversation:

Townhouse Takes: “When and why did you first decide to start streaming?”

Chef Moquin: “It was when I put my first computer together, when it really started to come together but I had always wanted to learn how to stream. I had just started a new job after college and wanted a new hobby to start after work in the afternoons. Growing up I loved playing and enjoying games with my friends. I really like playing single player games and wanted a way for me to interact with a community and have others enjoy the game too.”

TT: “What types of games do you play?”

CM: “I have been jumping around a bit. Some of my favorite and more popular streams have been Doom, Fallout 4, Halo 5 campaign, Kingdom Hearts 3, AC Origins, Witcher 3. Mostly single player games. Choosing games is kind of random, sometimes I’ve heard they are good and never played them, other times streamers or viewers request them. Streaming was a chance for me and others to check it out. Not all of these games had huge views on Twitch, but had enough people watching to grow, so I am trying to find a niche space.”

TT: “How do you keep viewers active and watching your stream throughout?”

CM: “The biggest thing is to continue to talk out loud throughout the stream, without thinking about it. Constantly engaging with the chat for both in game and out of game conversations. There are some minigames in the overlay that my streamer friends and I use, you can earn and spend caps in these games and for in stream commands. Great for breaks. Some include Races, in which you can bet on 5 toy horses and another is Peggle in which you drop a ball at a chosen angle to try and earn caps. I had custom emotes designed for all subscribers to use and I love how they came out.”

TT: “How did you come to be involved with a small streamer Discord community and what advice would you give to someone who is just starting out streaming?”

CM: “I kind of found them randomly. I was searching around and met a friend Dewinged Moth, just started talking to him and after some time, they invited me to use their overlay. Now I have another discord called Elements. 4 of us: Chef, Sholali, Zukanna, and NaCl_Intake made it. Basically just a gathering point for collaborations, community involvement, co-op streams, monthly community events. As for advice, just take it one stream at a time and go slow with adding components. First few streams, get the gameplay down, then add microphone and a webcam. Try to keep your schedule consistent and stick to it.”

TT: “What are your future plans and how do you plan to continue to grow in the future?”

CM: “Sort of a tough question. In the short term, more of the same, keep doing what I’m doing. Solo streams, co-op streams on Tuesday. It’s difficult to grow. Trying to get more people involved through discord and Twitch, grow the community over a long period of time.”

Chef regularly streams Tuesday nights, Saturday mornings, and Sunday afternoons. You can check him out on Twitch at Chef_Moquin95 (https://www.twitch.tv/chef_moquin95)!
